The Importance of Resting your Metabolic Rate

Having trouble lately squeezing into those jeans? Before you give up and go spend money on a whole new wardrobe, consider creating a new and healthier lifestyle for yourself. Put forth some effort into exercise and perhaps changing your diet could be all the effort you need.

Losing weight can sometimes seem very frustrating. With so many confusing ways of going about it, it can seem like more of a headache than anything, especially with all the testimonials and advertisements overwhelming you with promises. Did you know you alone have total control of your weight gain and loss? Did you know the main factors are your metabolism and calculating your Resting Metabolic Rate, or RMR?

What exactly is RMR you ask?

RMR is the total rate at which your body burns calories and fats while resting or doing nothing.

Different factors determine our RMR. One of these is aging. As we get older muscle deterioration leads to low RMR and thereby increasing our weight gain.

Any form or combination of diet and exercise is not necessarily a guarantee of effective weight loss. Some may boast short term effects, but make sure you keep in mind that long term ones matter even more. Weight loss could end up losing you muscle instead of fats. Since muscles are vital for metabolism, you may end up with the opposite results you were trying to reach. Selecting more effective exercises is what will determine your results, especially weight lifting.

As you move closer to your goal of raising your Resting Metabolic Rate, you are putting yourself on a road to a better and healthier lifestyle for yourself.
